Microsoft's Bing search engine has overtaken Yahoo to become the 2nd most popular internet search engine in the US after Google.
According to a report released by Nielson, Microsoft search offerings, which include Bing, MSN and Windows Live, now hold 13.9 per cent of the search market share, more than the 13.1 per cent held by Yahoo.
Since signing a deal with Microsoft to power Yahoo's search engine, it was only a matter of time before Bing surpassed Yahoo. The search deal was a part of Yahoo's plans to focus on more important things like content and advertisement.
The Nielson report takes into consideration only those searches which have been conducted by typing directly into the search box, and not those triggered by user activity on the web.
Check your Bing results. Bing is more actual content driven than Google. Bing also is a great deal more dependent on Title tags, etc...If you need help!

The new Instant Search from Google can have huge implications for your business and searches. Here is the deal. Google will now automatically recommend results as you are typing---in addition it will recommend suggested phrases as well. You need to go to Google and check the suggested phrases vs your phrases now...make sure you tune up your seo accordingly. As always, we can help. Dont miss this!

OK. Pay attention! You aren’t going to see this one every day—or maybe ever again. We have a system so unique for Realtor and Real Estate agents that we are going to make you a deal that is incredible. Here it is. Our unique property marketing system which includes an individual agent website, a website template for each every property (so you can publish at 123MainStreet.com for example), integrated FaceBook Fan pages, Twitter, and Blogs which we normally sell for 5k development plus $250 per month (basic package)—we are going to 100% finance for you. And, to cap it off, we are going to let you pay for it ONLY with the leads it generates THAT you want to claim.
Here’s the way it works: 1) We completely build and integrate your marketing system for you—we will even post the blogs, and keep the FaceBook fan page updated, 2) When a lead comes in (via email or call), you decide if you want to claim the lead—if you do, you simply pay $100 toward the balance of your bill. You can stop at any time–or not claim a lead you don’t want. Its that simple! We make money by making you money. Any questions?

Domain Names,Misspelled Searches
Todd Hunnicutt here. I occasionally do searches on all kinds of topics to see what the search engines key off on a site. You can do intentional misspellings like Tod Hunnicut for Todd Hunnicutt or Columba for Columbia and the search engine will suggest the correct spelling. This is occasionally very helpful especially if you have a multiple spelling like Todd Hunnicutt could be Tod Hunicut or Todd Honeycut or Tod...well you get the point.
Anyway, you should also check multiple spellings of your business or product. You will be suprised on just how much information you will find on these "misspelled" searches. Try it!
Also, one last thought on the name game. When buying a domain name, especially a main marketing name, buy (or at least check) the "extensions" (.com, .net, .org, etc...). More than one person has bought a domain only to find an inappropriate site shares a similar domain name. So check it out---the extensions as well as likely "misunderstanding" (like if you have houseforyou.com check house4u.com). You be glad you do it before you potential client.
Good Luck,
Todd Hunnicutt

The internet is now part of McDonald's. In over 11,500 restaurants, McD's has decided that WI-FI is an important decision in where people dine. The companies website explains it this way...
"With free Wi-Fi at more than 11,500 participating restaurants, customers can access the Internet using their laptops or PDAs at no charge. So grab a McCafé Latte and log on...it’s on us! Just one more thing to love about McDonald's."

Social Media, Facebook and Twitter, Today's Third Party Endorsements
Third Party Endorsement
Solicited or unsolicited recommendation or testimonial from an entity (usually a customer or user) other than the manufacturer and seller of a product or service.
Many of us today are shocked over the growth of social media---Facebook, twitter and the like. Facebook, for example, has over 500 million users or more than the entire population of the US. How did something grow this big, this valuable, essentially overnight?
I think one of the main reasons at least from a marketing perspective is this idea of the "third party endorsement." Let's face it. We no longer live in a geographic community. We shop on Ebay and Amazon. We go online and buy things from literally continents away; its shipped in on UPS and we have it in our den all without leaving our house. That is our modern world.
So, from a business perspective and a customer perspective, the social media sites now fulfill the "old reputation void" that used to be present in small town life. Every businessman knows that a disparaging remark on your Facebook page or a negative response on Ebay can literally kill your business. So, we as clients now demand this "accountability loop" or third party endorsement to insure accountability from the businesses we deal with.
Is your business engaged in social media for its marketing efforts? If so, let me know how its working for you and whether is helping you build a better business. If you want more information, contact me, Todd Hunnicutt, at todd@realinternetsales.com.

Blackberry OS 7...The Apple of RIMS eye?
Blackberry 7 operating system out today. Keep in mind that Blackberry (Research In Motion; $59.13) has 15million corporate subscribers whereas Apple runs about 1-1.2 million corporate accounts.
The early reviews are extremely positive on the operating system. With recent hiccups on the I-Phone 4, could this spell problems for Apple ($261.80)? Yep, I think so!

ALL MARKETING, EVEN THE INTERNET, IS LOCAL
The famous Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill once commented, "All politics are local." Here is something that may surprise you, so is all internet marketing! Yes, I realize that the internet has international, Global appeal. Yes, I realize that internet is BIG. But, as important, the real appeal of the internet is the specificity of the search and the specificity of the product that search can provide. Moreover, a great many products on the internet are specific to location. For example, with large ticket items like cars or especially houses, geography plays a huge factor in value to the potential customer (i.e. having the ability to go look and test drive a car within a local area has great value; and obviously, if I am searching for a house, the search and value of search return is highly localized).
So, you might ask, how do I localize my marketing on the internet? I am glad you asked. First, if you are engaging in PPC (that's pay per click), then Google and Bing and Yahoo have a defined geographic search by area, zip, etc... If you are interested in the higher value organic search optimization, there are several SEO techniques that can give your site, product, and overall marketing a distinctly LOCAL feel. Call or contact us for more information, Todd Hunnicutt via todd@realinternetsales.com.

Today many domain vendors such as Godaddy, SEDO and SnapNames offer existing domains for sale at auction. Often you can purchase domains that have "traffic" at auction for a very reasonable price (often less than $100). Assuming you find a good match (url-wise) and content wise, check out the current site to insure the content is not offensive or so specialized that it is meaningless to what you attempting to create (highly specialized traffic in general is not translatable into traffic continuity if the content changes). In addition, check the Internet Archive (at http://www.archive.org/) to insure that the site hasn't changed completely recently so that you know what your buying.
Since these domains already have traffic and are established (not brand new domains), they can index faster with the search engines and get your message out faster!

News Driven Searches
I wanted to explore a thought with you that not everyone always thinks about in marketing their business. Sure we all know that having our product or service show up under the search terms for the appropriate geographic area is key (like Columbia SC Realtor, for example). But, what we often don't consider is the incredible fluidity of searches---read that as "current event" driven. To prove this point, consider the #1 searches by Google for the last two days:

Does your business own its search?
Todays marketing tips centers on the Search Engine and URLS. BP recently purchased many domain names, and consequently caught a great deal of heat on the popular media, having to do with "GULF," "OIL SPILL", etc... Regardless of what you think of BPs other corporate communications (or lack thereof) during this period, the buying of URLs that "tell your message" (or almost as important, keep your competitors or adversaries from telling theirs) works, plain and simple.
Take the time today. Explore your business terms that are important to your brand and market perceptions---do you control these? Do you control the search terms if people head to GOOGLE or Bing and do a search?
If you need help in doing this, we can help. Define and dominate your search terms!
